About

Hi! My name is Simon Kim and I’m 26 years old. I have Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a condition where there is progressive weakness of muscles. I use an electric wheelchair to get around and I require 24/7 assistance with everyday life.

simon_kim.jpgFirst and foremost, I give thanks to God for the many wonderful opportunities I have been given in life. Although I have a disability, I’m still so thankful that I have the ABILITY to do things, such as creating websites! Praise the Lord!

Living with a disability doesn’t mean that you’re not able to do anything at all. It’s just that it requires a longer amount of time and effort in completing a task. It would take me much longer than an average person to type a word document. In fact I can’t even type. I use a on-screen keyboard, where I use my mouse to click on the letters. Technology is great isn’t it! :)

I’m a freelance web designer. I have developed some active websites which are community based and also for the Korean Church. I am based at Lindfield Studio and Photo Lab in Sydney, Australia.

I was very fortunate to get a job through the help of Sydney Employment Development Service (SEDS). SEDS is an employment service that gives assistance to people with a disability to gain employment opportunities.

Nothing would be possible for me without the support of my family and the network of people I have close links to.

I have the determination and will power to press on with my life no matter what the circumstances may be. My hope is that many people be inspired and encouraged by my story. I wish to share my experiences in life and to shed light on those who think there is no hope for them. I believe that “There is a always a light at the end of the tunnel.”
